POST 6 - Problematizing FRIENDS
Seeing FRIENDS I couldn't minimize or
omit the amounts of transphobic and sexist behaviors that the characters of
Friends did and said. Like when Ross expresses him uncomfortable when knew that
his ex wife was lesbian, and his son would be raised by her, or when Chandler laughed
about his transsexual dad, or when he was called gay because of his emotional
comments in a derogatory way, or Joey's comments about using women to satisfy
his sexuals needs without feeling love for them.
When I began to see it and understanding
that FRIENDS was created in the 90s, and in that time these types of comments
were completely normalized, I felt that friends it was a satire in own.
But it is necessary to problematize these
behaviors, and problematize how the TV reproduce sexist behaviour models, so that we musnt normalice these
patriarchal, sexist and homophobic structures and stereotypes, and start to leave problematics and learnings in the ways of artistic expression.
